I had to take my boat into the doctor’s office a couple of weeks ago. As is usually the case when leaving the boat with a mechanic… I still don’t have it back yet. I took it in because it started making a pretty bad knocking noise in the upper part of the engine. For any of you that know anything about boat motors, that’s probably not a good sign at all. I’m hoping that I took it in before any real damage was done, but I still don’t know the diagnosis yet. The mechanic was supposed to be looking at my engine a few days ago, but I still haven’t heard back from him. We’ll see how it plays out I guess.
Things have gotten a little boring for me on the fishing front with having my boat out of commission. Most of the lakes around here have very limited shore access. Not to mention the fact that it’s the middle of the summer here, so the bulk of the bass population is sulking out deep. There’s a creek coming off of Lake Austin that has good shore access though, so I’ve been fishing that. There’s good shade, weed growth, and shoreline trees and stuff so there are a few good fish in there right now. After working that creek over really good for 3 or 4 trips though, it’s gotten pretty boring fishing the same water over and over.
Yesterday I decided to take my chances and go check out Brushy Creek Lake just for the sake of fishing some new water. It’s a small lake (30 acres) with a trail going around it, so there’s good shore access. I also wanted to check it out partly because I’m in the process of planning a fishing trip for the men in my church congregation. I’ve got to find a place with good shore access and good fishing. Brushy Creek fit the bill pretty well. I only fished for a couple of hours, mostly scouting things out, but I caught a good bass and a good catfish both probably just shy of 3 pounds each. I’ll probably be fishing it more while my boat is still out sick. There’s more water to cover there than the creek off of Lake Austin.
I’ve had a few people contacting me the last couple of weeks wanting to schedule guide trips as well, but I’ve had to turn them away since I’m not sure when the boat is going to be back. That’s getting really frustrating. It’s making it very difficult to build my business.
Anyways, hopefully the boat will be home soon and I’ll have more exciting things to be posting about.
