I couldn’t be happier with my tournament stats for the year so far. Well, I guess I could, but it suffices to say that I’m pretty darn pleased with them. Just finished another tournament yesterday with the Big Sandy Creek Bass Club and Jimmy Lynn and I managed to squeeze out an unofficial 3rd place finish. I say unofficial because there’s a little controversy right now as of to whether or not the first place team is going to get DQed because of a possible state regulation violation. They didn’t intentionally cheat by any means, but it was just an honest mistake and maybe violated state regulations. Personally, I hate to see a good day get DQed for a dumb mistake, so I hope they weren’t in violation, but the club officials should make a decision within the next couple of days.
Now, back to the real topic, it continues to be a great year so far for me. I did some figuring the other day, and I’d like to share some of my 2013 tournament stats with ya’ll. So far this year I’ve competed in 19 different tournaments. Out of those 19, I’ve taken 1st place four times, 3rd place 3 times, and a money finish (4th place) once. Here’s how that breaks down:
21% of the tournaments I’ve fished, I’ve won
37% of the tournaments I’ve fished, I’ve placed top 3
42% of the tournaments I’ve fished, I’ve taken cash
In plain English that means:
I win one tournament in every 4-5 that I fish
A little better than every 3 tournaments I fish, I place top 3
In nearly half that tournaments I fish, I walk away with cash
How about them apples!?! I’m feeling very fortunate and blessed to have had the year I’ve had so far. For those of you who may be unfamiliar with tournament fishing and may not be able to recognize the significance of these stats, here’s a little reference point for you. This year, Texas Tournament Zone (TTZ) has held a total of 28 Wednesday Nighter tournaments this year. I am one of only 4 guys to have won multiple Wednesday Nighters so far this year.
I hope I don’t sound cocky by posting these stats, and I don’t intend to post them to have an “O’Doyle Rules!” type of attitude, but rather, by recognizing my own accomplishments, it helps to fuel the fire in me to continue to succeed and push to maintain these stats and even improve them. Here’s hoping we can keep adding to these numbers…
