Well, I’ve finally gotten around to putting a fresh, new look to the website. The thought to do it was spurred on by a couple of clients and friends who mentioned that they were having a difficult time finding the page on my old website that gave information about my guide services. I started asking several people, and many said that they had no problems navigating my previous website, but if just one or two people are having difficulty in contacting me to book a trip… that’s too many!
Hopefully ya’ll will find the site easier to navigate and easier to find what you are looking for now.
It has now been four months since I started guiding full-time at the beginning of the year. There’s been some pretty big set backs (like having to get a new powerhead in my motor!), but overall things have been going pretty well. I wanted to take some space here to thank everyone for your business and your support! Thank you! As long as I can manage to keep my boat out of the shop (Ha!), ya’ll have been keeping me busy, and I am very grateful for that. In these four months, I’ve also learned a few things and made a few decisions:
1) I am doing away with the “10% First-Time Client Discount.” I’ve come to discover that people are either going to pay for a guide or they are not, and the discount really didn’t have much pull. Plus, I originally put the discount in place to generate new business. I’m busy enough now to where I feel like I don’t need it.
2) The “No Fish, No Pay” policy is also gone. Not because of what ya’ll might think though. I have had that policy ever since I started guiding just part-time three years ago, and in those three years I’ve only had ONE trip where that policy actually came into play. So I’m not losing money because of that policy. The real reason I am getting rid of the policy is because YOU, the customer, requested it! I have had so many clients now tell me that they intended to pay me whether we caught fish or not and they felt like the “no fish, no pay” policy was ridiculous. Several clients now have said that policy needs to go, so it’s gone! I also feel like getting rid of this policy will help overall in the educational aspect of my guide trips. There have been trips where I become more focused on getting the customer to catch a fish (so I can get paid) than actually taking the time to teach and explain things to them. With the pressure of that policy no longer weighing on me, I can make sure that I am doing my job in teaching and expounding which is what clients seem to be more interested in anyway. Don’t worry though, just because the policy isn’t there anymore doesn’t mean we won’t catch fish. We’ll get ’em!!!
Anyway, I hope ya’ll enjoy the new site and let me know if you have any feedback for me on the site or other changes.
