Belton is sitting at full pool with stained water (2–4 ft visibility) and temps in the low 80s. The bite is very shad-focused right now, with fish suspended in open water rather than relating to structure.
Weightless soft jerkbaits, hard jerkbaits, and minnow-style plastics on a Bass Pro Shops XPS Tungsten Round Ball Jighead have been producing, and forward-facing sonar has been key for staying on these roaming schools. That said, keep your eyes peeled for bass blowing up on shad at the surface — if you’re quick with a cast, the same baits will catch them.
Both largemouth and smallmouth are showing up, with the smallmouth averaging a bit larger. On cooler mornings in the 60s, the smallmouth bite has been especially active.
