I got to have a lot of fun last week. It started off with a good day of catching Lake Austin bass on a buzzbait ALL DAY LONG. I recently received my new tournament jersey in the mail (finally!). The turnaround time on orders from Rayjus may take a long time since they are so busy, but their work is pretty darn good. I think my jersey looks great. So the first order of business was to go out for the day on Monday to hopefully get some new photos and GoPro footage while wearing the new jersey. It couldn’t have worked any better. I had an awesome day catching around 30 keepers and the vast majority of them were on a buzzbait. [Read more…]
2014 Tournament Season Recap
This year seems to be no different than any other year. Full of highs and lows. The biggest setback this year has been boat problems. Always with the boat problems! Never seems to end. I’ve had to fork out a whole lotta money to keep ‘Merica goin’ strong. I’m hoping and praying that we are past the worst of it now and that she will run strong for some time now. [Read more…]

I feel like I’ve learned a bit the last few years about what it takes to win tournaments. This year I made a commitment to myself to fish to win. Previously, I’ve kind of fished to just…do well. I’ve always wanted to win, but at the same time, just finishing in the money was satisfactory. I’ve always just kind of fished to “save face.” I just wanted to be consistently good. Last year I started realizing that I wasn’t as happy anymore with simply getting 2nds and 3rds. [Read more…]
Sick Stick Madness
This has been both an incredibly frustrating and incredibly rewarding summer on Lake Austin. One trip I’ll go out, find a big school of bass, and start putting a beating on ’em. The very next day, I’ll go out only to find that the school had moved, and I’ll catch 1 or 2 keepers and that’s it. That can be incredibly frustrating when the previous trip you put a dozen or more keepers in the boat. In last week’s TTZ Wednesday Nighter, I fished with John Ward (aka: austinjohn), and finished in the money in 3rd place after we had put some good fish in the boat on a spot that John had shown me. Can’t Seem to Get Away From Dead Bodies on Lake Austin
It’s been an interesting few months this summer. Once school let out for the summer, I spent the first month just relaxing not really doing much but working and fishing. It was nice, but since then I’ve had a really hard time settling into any kind of groove or routine in my life. Hence the lack of activity on both my website and Facebook fan page. In the summer, we typically see a drop in tournament activity with the exception of small club tournaments and short weeknight tournaments. I’ve fished a few here and there, but haven’t taken them very seriously. [Read more…]
