All of the other lakes I offer trips to are within a one hour drive of Austin, but due to O.H. Ivie becoming one of the hottest and most talked about lakes in the bass fishing world in recent years, I have received a high volume of requests for guided trips on this lake. As such, I better start offering something out here! Since O.H. Ivie is a much longer drive from home for me, it is really only worth my time to go out there for multiple days. Here are the options:
O.H. IVIE TRIPS ARE AVAILABLE FROM NOV 1 – FEB 28 ONLY AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE THE WEEK OF THANKSGIVING AND THE WEEK OF CHRISTMAS. AVAILABILITY ALSO IS DEPENDANT UPON LODGING AVAILABILITY.

Three Full Days – $2370: This trip consists of three consecutive 8 hour fishing days on O.H. Ivie Lake. This trip is limited to 1-2 passenger trips (no 3 passenger trips). As with all of my other trips, all tackle is included in the trip cost, but I do not provide food and lodging accommodations.
O.H. Ivie Lake Description: Located on the Colorado and Concho Rivers in Concho, Coleman, and Runnels counties, and 55 miles east of San Angelo, O.H. Ivie has a surface area of 19,149 acres and reaches depths of 119 feet. The water level at O.H. Ivie is known to fluctuate about 6-10 ft annually, however. It is one of Texas’s newer reservoirs only having been impounded in 1990. It is considered a classic looking Texas lake full of lots of flooded brush and timber along with various types of aquatic vegetation growing in it. The water clarity is typically clear on the main lake and Concho arm, while it can be a bit more turbid in the Colorado arm. The primary cover is the standing timber found through much of O.H. Ivie. When the lake was impounded, they did not clear the trees and brush from the river basin, so there are thousands of acres of brush and trees found throughout the lake. Various species of native aquatic vegetation and hydrilla are found in various areas of the lake. The primary structure found on the main body of O.H. Ivie is rock, and then simply mud flats when you get up into the river arms.

Fishing O.H. Ivie Lake: In recent years, this lake has become known as one of the best places to potentially bag a 13 plus pound bass in the world. It’s no secret that the majority of the bass this size are getting caught during the winter months, which is when I offer trips here. As such, I can’t really comment on the fishing here during other times of the year. Having said all of that, don’t expect to come here in the winter and catch a bunch of bass. The anglers who are catching the majority of the 13 plus pound bass are highly skilled anglers that are dedicated to spending several days on the water in search of that one bite.
Now, if you want to come here and just have fun catching bass using traditional bass fishing methods, you can do that as well, but your odds of catching the monster 13 plus pound bass are much slimmer. Traditional bass fishing methods out here do have a decent chance of catching a very large 8-11 lb bass, however, and you can have a good day catching decent numbers of bass.
Typical O.H. Ivie Lake Bass Fishing Methods: As mentioned, anglers targeting the monster 13 plus pound bass found in O.H. Ivie are usually only looking for a single bite when they come out here. This is often done in the winter months by utilizing highly sophisticated electronics targeting these lone bass hanging out suspended in wide open water offshore. Umbrella Rigs with swimbaits is the weapon of choice for targeting these monsters. It is a tough way for the average angler to fish, but savvy anglers can score big time with this method in the winter months. Sight fishing in the spring during the spawn has also become a very popular method for targeting huge O.H. Ivie bass. Again though, these anglers are looking for one bite, and will often spend hours scouring the lake without ever making a cast until they find the bass they want to fish for.
