Description: Located on the Colorado River northwest of Austin in Travis and Burnet counties, Lake Travis has a surface area of 18,622 acres when at full pool (681 ft. msl) and reaches depths of 190 ft. The water level is known to fluctuate quite often though within about a 20 ft range, and is often below the full pool mark. The lake was impounded in 1942 and features crystal clear water throughout much of the lake with many gorgeous tall cliffs, rocky shorelines, and even a few waterfalls. Water visibility on many portions of Lake Travis can exceed 20 ft or more, but can become more stained as you get into the upper reaches of the lake. The primary structure and cover in the lake are rocks and flooded brush with no significant amount of aquatic vegetation present.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="aligncenter Travis: Lake Travis is one of my go-to fishing lakes for taking less experienced anglers and for taking kids fishing. The lake has a huge population of smaller Largemouth Bass and the tenacious state fish known as the Guadalupe Bass. Bass in the lake are very plentiful and often much easier for less experienced anglers to coax into biting. BIG largemouth also roam the waters of Lake Travis and you just never know when an absolute monster bass will latch on to your line. At certain times of the year, the lake can also be an excellent choice for some of my more experienced clients who are really looking into getting into some bigger bass as well. You can usually expect a lot of action on Lake Travis from the plentiful smaller bass with a good opportunity for hooking into a real Bassquatch as well!

<a href="https://andermeine.com/new/lake-travis/travis-4/" rel="attachment tactics often see the most action through most of the year. A drop-shot rig, shaky head, or Ned Rig will often get you a lot of bites on this lake and even account for some of the bigger bass that are caught. During the warmer months, topwater lures such as a River2Sea Rover or the River2Sea Whopper Plopper can have tremendous success as well duping some of the bigger bass in Lake Travis. Winter time is often when I see some very quality catches happen on a football jig such as a River2Sea Papa Mur Jig or on a suspending jerkbait.

<a
