Lake Austin is sitting at a normal level with clear water averaging 4–6 feet of visibility and water temperatures around 67 degrees. Bass are currently in all phases of the spawn, with fish positioned shallow throughout the lake. Many bass appear to be grouped up in small areas, where anglers may get several bites in a short period of time before going a while without another one.
Some of the most consistent bites have been coming on light Texas-rigged stick worms and weightless soft plastic jerkbaits fished around submerged vegetation in 1–6 feet of water. Working productive grasslines thoroughly has been key to generating multiple bites. With spring breaks now underway, anglers should expect increased fishing pressure and boat traffic across the lake over the next few weeks.
