Lake Austin Fishing Report – Post-Spawn Bass on Grass Flats (April 22, 2026)

Lake Austin is at a normal level with clear water offering roughly 4–6 feet of visibility and water temperatures around 66 degrees. Bass are positioned shallow, primarily relating to grass flats with a mix of sand and gravel in and around spawning areas. Most fish appear to be in a post-spawn phase, though there are still some bass remaining on beds.

Drop-shot rigged finesse worms and Neko-rigged creature baits have been producing the most consistent action when worked through these shallow flats. Focusing on productive spawning areas and thoroughly working sections that hold fish has been key, as bass have been grouped up in smaller high-percentage areas. Once fish are located, it has often been possible to generate multiple bites from the same general area.

Inks Lake is at a normal level with stained water offering roughly 2–4 feet of visibility and water temperatures around 73 degrees. Bass are positioned shallow, generally less than 10 feet deep, and are relating to main lake points with a harder bottom. Wind-blown points have been the most productive areas. Fish are in all phases of the spawn, though the majority appear to be transitioning into a post-spawn pattern.

Drop-shot rigged finesse worms have been producing the most consistent action when worked along these main lake points. Focusing on wind-blown areas has been key, as those locations are holding the most active fish. Slowing down and thoroughly working productive stretches has helped generate consistent bites.

Lake Austin is at a normal level with clear water offering 4–6 feet of visibility and water temperatures around 73 degrees. Bass are positioned shallow and are relating primarily to inside grasslines, especially in areas where grass mixes with rock. Fish are in all phases of the spawn and are grouped up in specific areas, making it possible to catch multiple fish in a short stretch once a productive zone is located.

Weightless soft plastic jerkbaits and wacky-rigged Senkos have been producing the most consistent action when worked along these grasslines. The key has been covering water until fish are located, then slowing down and thoroughly fishing that area to capitalize on grouped-up bass.

Inks Lake is at a normal level with water temperatures around 73 degrees and stained water offering roughly 2–4 feet of visibility. Bass are positioned shallow, primarily less than 10 feet deep, and are relating heavily to dock cover. Fish are currently in all phases of the spawn, with some actively spawning while others are staging or transitioning nearby.

Drop-shot rigged finesse worms have been producing the most consistent action when fished around docks. Precise casting has been a key factor, with bites coming from very specific targets rather than general areas. While skipping under docks is not always necessary, consistently placing casts tight to the intended target has been critical to success. Efficiency in covering water while maintaining accurate presentations has made a noticeable difference.

Bass are positioned shallow, primarily less than 10 feet deep, and are relating to wind-blown points with hard bottoms. Most fish appear to be in a post-spawn phase, though some are still being found on beds or holding around spawning areas. Fish are grouped up in specific areas, making it important to key in on productive stretches.

Drop-shot rigged finesse worms have been producing the most consistent action when worked through these wind-blown areas. Once a fish is located, slowing down and thoroughly working that area has been key to catching multiple fish. There has not been a strong time-of-day pattern, with fish being caught consistently throughout the day.
